Making Time for your Own Business Despite a Busy Career

Source: Adrianna Hopkins is like the Energizer Bunny. Despite working as a news anchor for WSVN 7News, she still finds the time to chase her entrepreneurial endeavors.

If you were an award winning news anchor, putting hour after hour into your career, would you be able to find time to focus on an additional business venture? The answer for most people is simple: no way. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Regardless of how busy you are with your career, there is always time to chase your dreams.

Time management is not a strong point for many people. This is particularly true when it comes to juggling their work schedule with the rest of their life.

Fortunately, you can learn to manage your time more efficiently. Once you have a system in place and a schedule you are comfortable with, staying on track is much easier.

Back to the “News Anchor” Talk

Adrianna Hopkins is anything but your average news anchor. She has won multiple awards, including an Ohio Valley Regional Emmy on two occasions, while working for some of the most popular news stations in the country.

Hopkins doesn’t stop when the camera turns off, as she also runs a successful mobile app development business.

If you are wondering where she finds the time and energy, the following interview will pique your interest:

How does somebody as busy and successful as you make time for entrepreneurial endeavors?

Honestly, I make time for things I want to achieve. I work the morning shift at WSVN, meaning I’m in bed by 8pm (on a good night) and awake at 2:45am. People cringe at those hours, but my day at WSVN usually ends around 1 in the afternoon. So I have the rest of the day to dedicate to other tasks. I try to devote at least 3 days of the work week and every Saturday to my entrepreneurial endeavors.

Do you have any tips for juggling your “regular” job with your app  development business?

I know it’s difficult for anyone to juggle their “9 to 5” with a separate business. However, several of my colleagues are married with children and have a business on the side. My only tip is to make it happen – prioritize your time, set goals and check off that “to-do” list. Make your entrepreneurial dream come to fruition.

What keeps you ticking when faced with long work hours, both as an anchor/reporter and entrepreneur?

There are times I have to recharge, especially with my hours. I make sure to take the time to do that. I set goals, but I know not to burn both ends of the candle. Also, my app business is passive income. So if I miss a goal, it’s not the end of the world. BUT I have a desire to achieve those goals, and that alone keeps me ticking.

Final Thoughts

This piece goes to show that there is enough time in your day, regardless of your responsibilities, to chase after your dreams.

If you have a side business in mind, take this advice and get started. You have the time in your schedule. You just have to find it.
